In November 2024 I was invited to deliver a talk on Grace Webb’s “Expert Lab” main stage at the NEC motorcycle live show. It was on their “careers” day. I took the opportunity to give a behind the scenes view into the life of a Design Engineer at a company like Triumph and share some insights for those looking to get into the industry.

Triumph Design Awards

In 2014, upon hearing about the impending shortage of Engineers, and reflecting on my own experiences through school in competitions such as Rotary Young Innovator competition, I came up with the idea of a “Triumph Design Awards” competition. Self-motivated, I pitched the idea to Triumph’s CEO to achieve company buy-in. The aim was to showcase the relevance of D&T to a career in industry, and to celebrate the incredible work being completed up and down the country. Over the following 5 years the event went from strength to strength with specific outreach activities intended to encourage young women to enter, following which we saw a much more balanced demographic of finalists.
